The move saw over 500 enthusiasts registering for participation. Kamineni Hospitals organized it as part of their World AIDS Day program with the goal of spreading “Awareness and Fighting AIDS”.
The AIDS Awareness Walk was flagged off by Dr. Swamy M., HOD and Consultant of General Medicine, Kamineni Hospitals. Doctors from other departments, hospital staff, and members of the LB Nagar community also participated in the Awareness Walk. General medicine doctors Dr. J. Harikishan, Dr. Ratnachary, Dr. Satyanarayana Rao, Dr. Shyam Sunder, Dr. Ramakrishna, Dr. Suresh, Dr.Srikrishna and all the staff were also present at the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Swamy M, HOD and Consultant General Medicine, Kamineni Hospitals, says, “India has the world’s third-largest population of people living with HIV, the viral infection that causes AIDS. However, only about 1.78 million of the 2.35 million people living with HIV in the country are aware that they are infected. The likelihood of developing HIV after exposure is determined by factors such as the method of exposure, the viral load of the infected person, and the number of exposures the person has undergone.
“The inequalities that fuel the AIDS pandemic are not unavoidable; we can address them. On this World AIDS Day, December 1st, we should boldly recognize and address the inequalities that are impeding progress in ending AIDS and equalizing access to essential HIV services, particularly for children and key populations, as well as their partners.”
The Department of General Medicine, with its postgraduates, conducted a continuous professional development program as part of the World AIDS Day program, which was preceded by the Awareness Walk.
