Mumbai's Aavya Gupta

Mumbai-based 7-year-old Aavya Gupta has brought honors to the city of Mumbai as well as the entire state of Maharashtra by winning the Special Appreciation Award in classical dance form – Bharatnatyam at the All India Dance Drama Competition.

The 68th All India Dance Drama Competition was organized by All India Artist Association from June 6 to June 10 in Shimla in which 380 participants from 19 states participated.

Hundreds of contestants took part in this dance competition from Maharashtra. Aavya Gupta, participated in the sub-junior category and she was the youngest in the entire dance competition.

Influenced by South Indian classical music and dance forms, Aavya has been taking Bharatnatyam dance lessons from Guru Shubham Khowal for the last 2 years.

Since, It was her first performance and as ghungroos are very sacred and worshiped in this classical form, her Guruji conducted the Ghungroo worship ceremony in the famous Kalibari temple of Shimla in front of Maa Kali.

Aavya is a class 2 student studying at Rajhans Vidyalaya School, Mumbai.

People associated with this art form were overwhelmed with Aavya’s performance and congratulated her for her achievement and gave their blessings. In the future, Aavya is keen to learn and excel in this classical dance form and reach new heights.
